Slack is a powerful tool groups can use to streamline work. Because D3 meets only twice a month, we need a tool to help us accomplish all the things we want to do. That’s where Slack comes in– it makes it possible to move projects ahead in between meetings. But Slack can also feel daunting to new users.
One of the complications of Slack is that different devices (Apple, Microsoft, Android, etc.) configure Slack in different ways. In other words, Slack can look different and work differently from one type of device to another. That’s why any user guide we try to put together in D3 will be inadequate.
Below are some of the Slack Help videos that can get you started. The key: you learn to use Slack by diving in and playing with it. Playing implies being curious to see what happens if you do x, or y, and then giving it a go. You cannot break Slack and you cannot break the internet.
For D3 to fully benefit from your talents– and we need them!–you need to be on Slack. Maybe most important: to feel like you’re a fully participating member of D3, you need to be on Slack.
